DAY 5

OUR PASTRY DU JOUR: can't remember the name but it was basically a sandwich of pastry thing with raspberry jam in the middle
Rating: 1 stick of butter (looks a lot better than it tasted)

Today we made a trip out to Versailles. The grounds of this former palace are insanely vast and so beautiful.

Our ABSOLUTE favorite area was Marie Antoinette's Hamlet. She had a mini village of cottages out away from the castle that were ADORABLE!!! So, so cute. (She liked to pretend that she was a milkmaid...kinky.)

Crepes for din-din! Yum!!

Here is a picture from one of the cafes in the Place de la Bastille with a beautiful view of the monument.

DAY 4

OUR PASTRY DU JOUR: Macarons from Pierre Herme in St. Germain

Flavors:
CK - Passion Fruit-Chocolate and Olive Oil & Vanilla
FSH - Fresh Mint and Pistachio & Raspberry
Rating: The Tomos split
CK - 2.5 sticks of butter (btw macarons aren't her thing)
FSH - 3.5 sticks of butter (the fresh mint was a 4 & the P&R was a 3)

We went out to the Left Bank on Thursday, mostly in St. Germain.

Here we are with Le Penseur, aka, the Thinker. Rodin wanted all of Paris to be able to see this piece of art. It only cost us 1euro to go into the gardens and see this famous work along with others, including the Gates of Hell.

We went to the tres chic Le Bon Marche - Left Bank, and saw this display on their top floor! It felt like a piece of home...kind of. Below is one of the street sign displays they had to give the feel of the real LA. OF COURSE, Valley girl & proud Angeleno Fuyu had to take a picture.

North Hills is obviously a chic haven for Parisian expats, so this makes sense.

Christy spotted this place. No we did not go inside. Just enjoyed the name play.

Our apartment is in the fabulous and fun, Marais/Bastille area where people are always out late enjoying the joie de vie. We often end our nights with a late night drink at one of the several dozen cafe/bars right downstairs. It's probably around 1AM, look at all the people in the cafe across the street.
We love this city!!!

DAY 3

OUR PASTRY DU JOUR: Un tarte du figue et pistache
Rating: 3 sticks of butter

Christy ran into Frank and Cheryl (er, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gonzales) on the tail end of their honeymoon.

Christy's awesome Fat Tire Bike Tour. Good stuff.

While Christy was off working off our pastry fest, Fuyu had a day-long date with The Musee du Louvre! I really think this relationship could really go somewhere.

Reunited and it feels so good!!

Man, this jar of nutella is the size of my head!

A crepe to end the day! All days should end like this.

Christy Hugs Paris

Looks like some sculptures in the Jardin des Tuilleries need some love.

Topiary in a little garden...cuuuuuute!!

DAY 1

BONJOUR PARIS!!!! We've arrived! After a long ten-hour flight sitting next to an annoying French couple who did not know how to use their "inside" voices and a very cramped plane, we finally made it. Oh and we had some slight frustration at the airport trying to take care of getting our week long metro pass. For the kind we got, you have to attach a photo. "Oh look Fuyu, there's a photo booth right here!" Oh awesome...except for the fact that it's not taking our bills, the change machine a few feet away wasn't working, the convenience store wasn't giving us change, and although we found another change machine, that wasn't working either. Sigh! Finally, Fuyu went to a ticket counter and managed to take care of it and voila, one hour later we were on our way.

We found our lovely apartment just fine and proceeded to take in all that Paris has to offer. . .oh after a quick 5-hour nap. The plane ride was so not restful so we conked out on the oh-so-comfy bed from about 1pm to 6pm (whatever, we are on vacay). We finally rolled ourselves out of bed to go and eat dinner and get drinks with Christy's work friend Alyssa.

Dinner was at Le Petit Bofinger, which was close to our place. That was a lovely meal. Then we met up with Alyssa and her friend at the Eiffel Tower. They were only in town for a day and a half and wanted to catch la Tour Eiffel at nuit. What a fabulous idea!!! It was so beautiful and so quintessential Paris. And for drinks we headed to a place called Le Crocodile Bar (thank you Lonely Planet!). They had a drink menu of about 200 or so and we looooooved ours! Ali there was awesome to us with good drink recommendations and even greater photo opps!

La Tour Eiffel at night

Alyssa, Lisa, Christy, Fuyu and our awesome drinks!

Cute little gummy crocs in the drinks!
